It is a Victorian cornice at the turn of the Edwardian period. The designs of leaf and ball are very delicate and smooth. Leaves which appear in this cornice give an impression of a longer wall. Also, because it is longer on the wall than on the ceiling, it automatically extends the wall. Therefore, the ceiling seems higher, too.
