The ‘place frieze’ cornice comes from classical architecture. It is a curvy cornice, and the cuts in the cornice are bigger and visible more clearly. It comes from a Victorian period where frieze design was popular in many houses. Also, because it is longer on the wall than on the ceiling, it extends the wall.
